Bridge Day is the one day a year that the New River Gorge Bridge, which crosses over the New River Gorge National River, is closed for pedestrians and BASE jumpers to enjoy. The bridge is 876 feet above the New River.  Bridge Day also marks the end of Gauley Season, a six week period that the Summersville Dam is released to allow for some of the best white water rafting in the world.
